March is a month to celebrate women in Ireland. Having just seen the back of St Brigid’s Day in February, a feast day for our female patron saint, International Women’s Day is close behind on 8 th March. Mother’s Day usually falls on a Sunday in March and for many is the most important celebration of the year. It’s a day to acknowledge the sacrifice, hard work and love that mothers show to their children and others in their lives. The date for Mother's Day in Ireland is determined by Easter, which is different each year as it is determined by the lunar calendar. In 2024, Mother's Day will fall on Sunday 10 March.
Mothers Day
Mother's Day is a celebration honouring the mother of the family as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. As well as growing and birthing a baby, motherly love and support follow far into childhood and adulthood. Mothers are often the most influential people in a person’s life and someone who deserves to be loved, respected and spoiled. Mothers come in all shapes and sizes; some are not related by blood. Maternal bonds might happen between friends, siblings, neighbours, even colleagues and every woman should be celebrated on this special day.
Say it with Flowers
What better way to show your love and appreciation for the mother in your life than a fresh flower delivery to their home or workplace? Flowers say everything you cannot with words – from thank you to I love you and everything in between. Many flowers, as well as being beautiful with a sweet scent, have hidden meanings. They used to be used as a way to pass messages between lovers, but these days are used to communicate all sorts of messages between friends, couples and colleagues. All flowers are beautiful, elegant and express emotions more than words.
Mother’s Day Flowers
How do you decide which flowers to include in your Mother's Day flower delivery? If you know your mother's favourite flower, we can include it. If you don’t know where to start, let our expert team of florists in Dublin decide for you.
Carnations are traditionally the official flower of Mother's Day. They symbolise pure love and are a colourful addition to any arrangement. In 1908, the founder of Mother's Day, Anna Jarvis, distributed carnations at the first Mother's Day service in the United States. When in doubt, roses will always do the trick. While red roses are a romantic choice, pink roses symbolize love, appreciation, and gratitude, making them the perfect choice for your mam. White roses are also a great choice as they are the symbol of purity and thoughtfulness.
